SuperVia completes renovation of two more stations

Responsible for the trains operating in Rio de Janeiro, SuperVia has completed improvements at the Mesquita and Olinda stations on the Japeri branch that serve the municipalities of Mesquita and Nilópolis, respectively. The boarding and deboarding of commuters who use the services of the company of Odebrecht TransPort became more comfortable and the spaces more accessible.

The rail system in Rio de Janeiro is over 150 years old, and SuperVia continues to carry out the program to revitalize the city’s trains.

“The system went almost 40 years without investments. Since we took over the operation, we have structured an investment plan of R$2.1 billion, R$1.4 billion of which already has been used to renovate the train fleet, invest in new technologies, revitalize infrastructure and address other essential fronts to ensure high-quality service,” explained José Carlos Prober, CEO of SuperVia.

In all, 32 stations have been renovated. At the Mesquita and Olinda stations, the public entrance and exit areas were expanded, with the ticket booths and turnstiles redesigned. Accessibility items such as tactile paving were installed to aid persons with visual impairments. The station also received fresh paint and new lighting and visual communication.
