Odebrecht Rodovias transfers R$77.1 million to 46 cities in 2017

A portion of the amount collected in tolls by the concessionaires of Odebrecht Rodovias benefits thousands of people with better health, safety, education, social projects and infrastructure. That is because the Services Tax (ISS) levied on the tolls is transferred to the 46 municipalities crossed by the highways, which can use the resources in accordance with their priorities.

“The transfers account for a significant amount of these cities’ budgets, especially during economic downturns. This is one of the ways how highway concessions contribute to local development,” said Paulo Meira Lins, an officer at Odebrecht Rodovias.

In 2017, municipal governments received R$77.1 million. In addition to tolls, the amount includes taxes on the hiring of contractors, especially for construction, as well as ancillary revenues. The amount is calculated based on the length of the stretch passing through the municipality or the value of the services performed.

In Mato Grosso, the intensification of pavement repair works resulted in a larger transfer for certain municipalities compared to last year. The city of Jangada, with a population of 8,000, received R$1.3 million, which corresponds to a 60% increase in transfers. And Rosário Oeste, with a population of 17,000, received R$1.6 million, an increase of 46%.

Campinas received 18% of the total transferred by Rota das Bandeiras in São Paulo state, which corresponded to R$7 million.

In Pernambuco, Rota dos Coqueiros and Rota do Atlântico transerred a total of R$3.9 million to the cities of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Jaboatão dos Guararapes and Ipojuca. Bahia Norte transferred R$10.5 million to seven municipalities in the Salvador metropolitan area.
