Discover Elki Fiestas’ story: a journey that began on the highway
DATE: 07/02/2026
For five years, Elki Fiestas, a member of Nova Infra Invest in Peru, lived a double routine. By day, he traveled along the IIRSA Norte highway; by night, he put the steering wheel aside to open his books and study Law, determined to complete a degree he had postponed for far too long.
It was not a new dream. Since his youth, he had enjoyed reading, excelled in Civic Education, and knew he wanted to pursue either Law or Journalism. But before reaching the legal field, his story began elsewhere: on the highway.
The First Miles with IIRSA Norte
His journey with IIRSA Norte began in 2011, during the construction phase. He started as a night-shift driver in Pomacochas, distributing refreshments, supporting logistics operations, and transporting camp personnel. Later, he took on trips to Tarapoto and the airport.
That experience allowed him to become deeply familiar with the highway—its sections, teams, operations, and the cultures it connects. Between contracts, he worked in different locations until returning to IIRSA Norte in February 2015.
Since then, he has built a career of more than ten years within the company, working in areas such as safety and administration.
Law: A Dream Waiting for the Right Moment
For many years, other priorities came first: achieving job stability, building his home, and setting an example for his son. The dream of studying Law remained alive, but it had to wait.
That opportunity arrived in July 2020. His son was about to enter university, and Elki decided that he would be completing his degree as his son began his own academic journey. He enrolled at UTP, studied at night, and attended in-person classes on weekends, often rushing from work straight to the university.
Even so, he did not miss a single class in five years. “With organization, anything is possible.” In 2025, he earned his bachelor’s degree.
The Opportunity He Almost Missed
Although he had always wanted to practice law, the legal department seemed like a distant possibility. He knew IIRSA Norte well, but his experience was rooted in operations, safety, and administration.
Then a colleague sent him a job posting. At first, he hesitated. It was his coworkers who encouraged him to apply, reminding him that opportunities “come at the right moment and can quickly pass by.”
He successfully completed the interviews with one certainty: he lacked practical legal experience, but he had a strong desire to learn.
When he received the job offer, he immediately called his brother, his son, and his mother. She replied, “That’s wonderful, son… and if it’s at IIRSA Norte, even better. Many people would love to have the opportunity to work there.”
The Next Stretch of the Road
Today, Elki is part of the legal department at IIRSA Norte. He aims to obtain his professional qualification, practice law, and eventually pursue a master’s degree.
To those who believe they are too old to study, he offers his own story as proof that, with discipline and determination, it is possible.
His story is not only about achieving a long-postponed dream. It is about something even more challenging: keeping that dream alive for years while life demands other priorities, and pursuing it again when the right moment finally arrives.
