Ocyan Waves Challenge, a program of Ocyan’s innovation platform, a company of the oil and gas sector, received registrations from 106 startups from all over the country to meet the company’s challenges in the second edition of the program being held this year. The companies selected for the second phase will participate in a pitch day on June 25.

“Despite the crisis we are experiencing at the moment, the startups remain firm and interested in the opportunities. The fact that the oil and gas market has not stopped during social isolation and that we already maintain a relationship with this ecosystem may have contributed to the adhesion, even with more technical challenges in this year’s edition”, celebrates Ocyan’s Offshore Production Director and leader of Ocyan Waves, Rodrigo Lemos. According to him, next month’s Pitch Day will be held with the companies chosen for the second phase: “This year, this event will be online, another innovation in the process due to the pandemic,” he adds.

Ocyan Waves Challenge launched five challenges in this year’s edition to startups market to seek innovative solutions to problems in operational areas of the company. The challenges that have received more applications are:  Alarm Management Smart System, with 45 registrations; Failure Prediction and Topdrive Hose Management and Warehouse Self-service, each with 32;  BOP Digital Twin (Subsea Blowout Preventer) with 31 registrations and Real Time BOP Fluid Analysis with 21.

Most of the registration came from the Southeast region. The State of São Paulo representing 39% of the startups; Rio de Janeiro with 23%; Minas Gerais, 7% and Espírito Santo, 3%. From the South region, we have received registrations from Rio Grande do Sul representing 8% of the total; Santa Catarina, 6% and Paraná, 5%. From the Northeast, only the state of Ceará registered participation, 3%, and the Midwest region, in which the Federal District represents 4%; Goiás and Mato Grosso, each with 1%.

“Regional diversity shows how we can enhance the country’s startups ecosystem and bring innovative solutions to Ocyan, in addition to those we find on current suppliers, concentrated in the Southeast region”, highlights the executive.

The program now proceeds with phases that will deepen the knowledge of those registered with the proposed problems. The next steps are: Pitch Day (entrepreneurs’ meeting with Ocyan, when those that will follow to immersion phase will be chosen); Immersion (when up to eight startups will be chosen with greater adherence to challenges and with the best proposals); and Pilot (where solutions will be developed and evaluated by Ocyan). Those approved in this final phase will be included in the company’s supplier registry.

Innoscience is responsible for the structuring and operation of Ocyan Waves Challenge, the first program of Ocyan Waves platform.
