The Guaratuba Bridge project, which will connect the cities of Matinhos and Guaratuba on the coast of Paraná, has made significant progress, reaching 44% physical completion. The pace of the work is a cause for celebration for local merchants and residents who have been waiting for the structure for over 40 years. Currently, the project generates around 630 jobs in the region.

Scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026, the bridge will be 1,244 meters long, with four traffic lanes (two in each direction), two safety lanes (one in each direction), rigid concrete barriers, sidewalks with a bike path, and guardrails at the ends. There will be a span of 160 meters and a navigation channel 17 meters high by 90 meters wide. A total of 64 piles with an average length of 40 meters, of which 30 will be submerged, will be driven. Each pile weighs 34 tons.

The total length of the road complex will be 1,826 meters, including 951 meters of access on the Guaratuba side and 875 meters on the Matinhos side. The project also includes local roads and a connection to the Cabaraquara Road in Matinhos.

According to Luciano Pizzatto, Contract Director responsible for the work, the project is progressing at an appropriate pace, meeting the expectations of the client and the local community. “We have a great responsibility to deliver such a long-awaited and important piece of infrastructure for the region. We understand the magnitude of our challenge and are committed to delivering this project with the quality that the state of Paraná deserves,” he  says.

Those closely following the progress of the work believe that the bridge will boost the economy and development of Guaratuba and the surrounding area, as many tourists avoided the municipality due to the difficulty of access. The project is the result of an investment of R$ 386.9 million made by the Paraná government, through the Department of Roads and Highways (DER/PR), an agency linked to the State Department of Infrastructure and Logistics. The work is being carried out by the Nova Ponte consortium, formed by the construction companies OEC, Carioca, and Goetze Lobato.
