On June 7, the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation was recognized in the Brazil SDG Strategy 2022 Award, placing in the Top 3 of this initiative that attests good practices carried out by members of the SDG Strategy coalition in the most diverse sectors of society. A total of 236 entries were submitted, with certificates being awarded to the 10 finalists and trophies for the first three places in four categories, presented at the event “The Future We Want”, held in São Paulo. The Foundation had two practices recognized among the 10 best and received the trophy for the PDCIS Educational-Productive Projects, in the “Civil Society Organizations” category.

Cristiane Nascimento, responsible for Sustainability, Partnerships, and Communication, represented the Foundation at the award ceremony. “With this award, we reinforce that achieving the goals proposed by the SDGs requires joint actions of public agencies, private initiative, civil society, and people in their individual and collective actions in communities. With the work carried out by the PDCIS, the Foundation and its partner institutions are directly connected to this global agenda,” he said.

Through the Educational-Productive Project, the winning practice, students from the Family Family Houses Foundation’s partners in the PDCIS receive support and resources to implement productive activities on the properties where they live, such as banana plantations, vegetables, or honey production. In this way, they influence the production of safe, sustainable, and affordable food, helping to create a more resilient food system in the region. The Ecological Septic Tanks technology, on the other hand, which was certified among the 10 best in the OSD Brazil 2022 Strategy Award, was developed by the Municipality of Caratinga (MG) and is implemented in several municipalities of the Southern Bahia Lowlands by the Land Conservation Organization (OCT), ensuring a sewage treatment system for properties without access to the general network and preventing soil and groundwater pollution.

According to Adelcio Menezes, Partnerships coordinator at the Foundation, the award celebrates the work of almost 20 years of the PDCIS and its effective contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. “We are very happy with the Top 3 achievement. These are practices that contribute directly to the achievement of the SDGs and are extremely aligned with our performance in ESG. We are proud of the power of the PDCIS and its capillarity in promoting sustainable territorial development,” he said. In 2021 alone, the Social Program contributed to 13 of the 17 SDGs, with direct support to 34 of the 169 global goals that make up the 2030 Agenda.
