Central do Brasil to be revitalized
DATE: 08/29/2018
On August 7, the State and Municipal Governments of Rio de Janeiro signed an agreement to revitalize Central do Brazil, the largest train station in Rio de Janeiro, operated by SuperVia, an Odebrecht TransPort company.
The station will become a world-class multimodal terminal, which will integrate the different modes transport with the region’s urban development. Revitalization will also include redesigning the passenger flow and the construction of a 35,000 m2 shopping mall over the platforms of the train station, which will house a cinema hall, a food court, megastores and a hotel with over 200 rooms.
The revitalization plan is part of the technical cooperation agreement between the State Department of Transport and the French Development Agency (AFD), a development bank. The Metropolitan Chamber of Rio de Janeiro is also a partner in the project, which will be presented in November.
Currently, some 600,000 people pass through the terminal every day and this number is expected to reach 1 million after the redesigning actions and fresh investments.
