Bahia Norte uses drones and new technologies for monitoring and road management
DATE: 08/04/2020
The investment in new road monitoring and management technologies marked the performance of Bahia Norte in the first six months of 2020. A proof of this is the implementation of QR codes in more than 3 thousand vertical signs present in the highways of BA-093 System and the reinforcement of road monitoring with the use of scanners and drones. The initiative aims at to assist the assessment work of the Concessionaire’s operations teams, helping to identify more accurately and efficiently the need for adjustments and interventions, in order to ensure road fluidity, comfort and safety for users
Balance of the first semester – Approximately 9.5 million vehicles used the BA-093 System highways between the months of January and June this year. This data is part of the balance of performance of Bahia Norte Concessionaire, responsible for the management of the BA-093 System, and shows a flow decrease compared to the same period last year, when almost 11.4 million vehicles were registered.
This reduction is related to the new coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the movement of people and goods on highways throughout the country. Despite this more restricted scenario, however, Bahia Norte continued to invest in service quality, with improvements in road infrastructure, road inspection, mechanical assistance and pre-hospital care. In addition, it ensured the maintenance of jobs and made quick decisions, which ensured the staff safety in all areas, with the creation of health protocols and training of teams in prevention measures against COVID-19.
In the first semester, Bahia Norte conserved more than 60 km of stretches under concession, provided approximately 9,000 services to users, of which 402 were medical services, 3,759 mechanical services and 4,859 requests in the same period through the Ombudsman’s Office and the Concessionaire’s hotline.
In all, 11 km of pavement, 1.5 km of drainage channels and 530 m of shoulder were recovered, and 48.5 km of horizontal signs were refurbished. We also highlight the works on the loop ramp connecting Via Cascalheira to Via Parafuso and the BA-526 marginal road, near the district of Capelão, which brought greater mobility and fluidity to the traffic in both regions, as well as the completion of geotechnical works in the BA-093 stretches, ensuring the stability of the soil, even with the heavy rains that hit the region at the time. For the second semester, investments of more than R$ 32 million are expected for improvements and important works throughout the BA-093 System.
The CEO of Bahia Norte, Guilherme Eloy, evaluates that the results are a reflection of the relentless work of the Concessionaire, which did not stop even in the middle of the pandemic, reinforcing its commitment to service excellence. “Our teams are continuously engaged in seeking solutions and ensuring quality service to users of the stretches under our responsibility”, he highlights. “Therefore, we think about scheduled maintenance and invest in qualification”, he adds.
Dialogue with the surroundings and social responsibility – Aware of its social role, in the first semester of 2020, Bahia Norte was also responsible for the development of awareness actions on the roads with topics such as traffic education, fighting child labor and protection of children and adolescents.
In view of the pandemic of the new coronavirus, the Concessionaire sought to join efforts in the fight against Covid-19 acting on two main fronts. One of these actions was the donation of 3 tons of non-perishable food and 2,500 cleaning and personal hygiene items to communities surrounding the BA-093 System roads.
In all, 560 families were benefited directly and 2,500 people indirectly in 09 locations in the metropolitan region of Salvador: Parafuso, Bosque das Bromélias, Caboto, Fazenda Madeira, Jardim Campo Verde, Quingoma, Palmares, Dandá, and Pitanga de Palmares.
The other action against Covid-19 was the support to truck drivers, who perform essential services and are responsible for transporting items to supply the homes of Bahia. Started in March, the project has already served more than 4,800 professionals with guidelines on prevention, body temperature measurement and cleaning of truck cabins.
