Rota dos Coqueiros delivers social program methodology to Government of Pernambuco

Read and write more and better
Improving reading and writing skills is the strategy used by Via Escola, a program of Rota dos Coqueiros, an Odebrecht TransPort company. After five years, the concessionaire will transfer to the State Government of Pernambuco the systematic methodology for the pilot project that has trained over 300 elementary school teachers.
“By mastering reading and writing, children take charge of their lives and expand their world view through the stories they have read, heard and reproduced,” explained Jadson Alcântara, teaching supervisor at the José Rodovalho School.
The pilot project was implemented at 12 public schools in Cabo de Santo Agostinho and Jaboatão dos Guararapes and enabled the two cities to accelerate their targets by five years. As a result, they reached, already in 2015, the indicators planned for 2020 in the Basic Education Development Index, which evaluates educational quality.
“The performance observed verified the success of the initiative, which can be replicated in other cities,” added Elias Lages, CEO of Rota dos Coqueiros.
Since its creation, in 2012, R$5 million has been invested in the program, which has benefited 3,000 elementary school students.
The methodology was developed by the Chapada de Educação Institute (ICEP), a non-profit organization and executing partner that works to promote high-quality public education.
