OEC welcomes students from the Poli-USP Junior Company

On the afternoon of May 9, the OEC welcomed 27 students from USP’s Junior Engineering Company (Poli Júnior) for presentations marking the start of the partnership recently signed between the two institutions. The main aim of the agreement is to exchange knowledge between the companies, through the interface between the academic and professional environments.

The meeting included presentations by Marcelo Piller, Director of Engineering and Innovation, Eduardo Abud, head of People and Organization (P&O) for Brazil, and Marcus Vinícius Lopes, head of People Attraction. The program also featured Maurício Almeida (DS Plantas Industriais e Energia) – a former Poli-USP student -, Patricia Velasco (Engineering), as well as testimonies from young members Ana Luiza Carvalho (Tenenge / UTE Azulão) and Tainah Piazzetta (Tenenge / Engineering).

The OEC’s expertise was on the agenda of the meeting. Marcelo Piller spoke about the company’s work, highlighting emblematic projects and construction methods that have provided innovative solutions for various clients throughout our 80-year history. One of the cases presented was the PRA-1 platform, where the modules were coupled on the onshore construction site, avoiding the high costs of offshore assembly. Other projects such as Galeão Airport, the Maracanã Stadium – both in Rio de Janeiro – the Social PPPs in Belo Horizonte, and the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal in Angola, were also discussed by Piller.

Eduardo Abud’s presentation covered the characteristics and opportunities of a career in Engineering and Construction. The main skills needed to work in the sector, the professional transitions experienced, the main areas that make up a construction site and aspects of Our Business Culture were covered. Marcos Vinícius Lopes highlighted how enriching the meeting was for both parties, with great learning on the part of the OEC. “Making ourselves available to listen, understand and collaborate in order to broaden the exchanges between companies and universities is fundamental if we are to have sustainable and consistent access to the new generation of engineers that is being formed,” she said.

According to Antoniel Neves, a member of Poli Júnior, it was a truly enriching experience. “I had the opportunity to learn from extraordinary people, who provided a comprehensive and inspiring overview of engineering, not just in Brazil, but on a global scale. This training has expanded my horizons, showing me perspectives I didn’t even know existed. I’m confident that this partnership between companies will bring us many more opportunities and achievements. I’m looking forward to what the future holds,” he said.

Poli Júnior is the largest Junior Company in Brazil, with around 180 students and providing services to companies from small to large. Over its 34 years of operation, it has carried out more than a thousand projects.
