UHN Consortium Produces First Batch of Organic Fertilizer at RNEST
DATE: 09/02/2026
In partnership with Petrobras, the UHN Consortium has achieved another important milestone in its sustainability strategy with the production of its first batch of organic fertilizer at the Abreu e Lima Refinery (RNEST). The initiative utilizes by-products generated through operational processes, transforming waste into a value-added resource, reinforcing the principles of the circular economy, and promoting increasingly efficient and responsible environmental management.
The thermal composting unit installed at the project site uses state-of-the-art technology and has an average production capacity of 700 kg of organic compost per day. The material produced will be used to support family farming, fostering sustainable development and social inclusion in the communities surrounding RNEST in the municipality of Ipojuca.
“This result strengthens the organization’s ESG agenda by contributing to waste reduction and proper disposal practices, while also promoting resource reuse through innovative and sustainable solutions. The initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Environmental Management System (EMS), consolidating practices that generate benefits for the environment, business, and society,” said Cleidson Rigaud, Environmental Manager for the project.
