92% of passengers approve of Rio De Janeiro Light Rail System
DATE: 02/01/2018
A survey conducted by Instituto Datafolha in November and December 2017 shows that 92% of passengers riding the Rio De Janeiro Light Rail System (VLT Carioca) rate the system positively (good or very good). Seven out of ten passengers recommend it as an efficient means of transportation. The satisfaction rate surpasses the rate registered in 2016, of 88%.
Passengers indicated speed as the most important aspect (62%). Speed also was one of the items that most improved from the previous survey, which was considered good or very good by 81% of respondents, surpassing the rate of 56% in 2016. Comfort (93%) and operational safety (87%) were rated above average. Reliability, which analyzes aspects such as wait time and number of unscheduled stoppages, increased from 46% to 85%.
“We ended 2017 with a new line, more stops operating and happier passengers, without foregoing safety and efficiency,” said the CEO of the VLT Carioca concessionaire, Rodrigo Tostes.
Almost half of passengers (45%) use the light rail system very often (four to seven times a week) and more than 50% use the system at least twice a day. Commuting (68%) is the primary reason for using the transport mode. ?For most respondents (72%), travel time is from 5 to 20 minutes, with an average trip time of 13 minutes.
The survey, which interviewed 989 people during the operation of lines 1 and 2 in stations and on vehicles, has a margin of error of 3 percentage points and a confidence level of 95%.
