Rota do Atlântico donates 5 tons of food to communities in Porto de Galinhas

The tourism sector is being badly affected by the economic effects of the new Coronavirus Pandemic, the Concessionaire Rota do Atlântico, which manages the PE-009 highway, access to the Porto de Galinhas resort, Pernambuco’s and one of the country’s main tourist destination, is mobilizing to support the region’s population that depends on visitors to guarantee their income.

To help meet the needs of socially vulnerable residents, such as families of rafters, street vendors, tents sellers and other self-employed people, Rota do Atlântico has donated five tons of food, in addition to hygiene and cleaning products, to the NGO Rodas da Liberdade, with distribution to the communities around Porto de Galinhas, like Socó, Pantanal and Salinas, Maracaípe and the rural area of the city of Ipojuca.

The donations were divided into 500 food staples. The deliveries were made following a safety protocol to avoid contamination by Covid-19, with the use of gloves and masks and the staples were distributed one by one, properly sanitized.

“Even at a time of budget austerity, we have made an effort to support the surrounding communities. We believe in the potential for recovery of tourism in the region, especially with the strengthening of national trips after the Pandemic, but at this time we need to act in the emergency, which is the basic sustenance of families”, highlights the president of the Rota do Atlântico, Elias Lages.

OTHER ACTIONS – Among the Sustainability actions developed by the Concessionaire due to the Pandemic is also the task force awareness week in attention to the health of truck drivers, with the Pit Stop against the Coronavirus. During the action, pre-hospital care professionals give guidance to drivers about prevention, symptoms and treatment of Covid-19, with distribution of snacks and individual hygiene and cleaning kits.  In 15 editions, those professionals have visited more than 2,500 people.

The Rota do Atlântico also transported 20,000 liters of ethanol between sugarcane mills and alcohol gel industries in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, To supply to public hospitals in Pernambuco. For the transportation, trucks working for  Rota do Atlântico covered 1.5 thousand kilometers, between the cities of Vitória de Santo Antão, Igarassu, Camutanga, Abreu e Lima, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Olinda and Recife.
