Over recent months, the Odebrecht Group has sought to build a bond with its stakeholders by participating in events and forums, where it presents its strategy for reputation recovery and its recent changes in the areas of Compliance and Governance.

One of these stakeholders is the academic world. Based on dialogue with researchers, professors, and university students, the company is working to build a positive agenda to create the Odebrecht of the future. The following are some of the highlights:

    Communication During a Crisis

In October, Braskem received 40 Administration students from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) to participate in an activity associated with the topic Communication and Corporate Competitiveness During Crises. There were 11 presentations by company leaders during the two days of the event in São Paulo.

    Odebrecht Award

In October, students, university professors, and members of society participated in the 9th edition of the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development. Five projects were awarded, with an emphasis on the methodology developed by University of São Paulo (USP) students who screen sugarcane seedlings before planting them.

    Ethics, Integrity, and Transparency

Between the months of April and October, Odebrecht Oil & Gas took part in meetings with seven Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, and Rio Grande do Sul universities to talk about compliance and career and present our business to students from a range of different courses. In October alone, we impacted 290 students and professors.
From the Holding to Academic Setting

Over the past four months, the Odebrecht S.A. leaders have been working to promote a strategic approximation with researchers and students from the country’s main universities. One of the main activities is the academic breakfast with 12 coordinators and professors at the Odebrecht São Paulo Building (EOSP), held in September, and the Odebrecht Braskem Design Challenge, an initiative that encourages Architecture and Design students to create solutions using plastic. In August, Marcelo Lyra, Head of Communication and Sustainability at the holding, took part in the Commemorative Integrated Communication Week that was part of the 70-year anniversary at Cásper Líbero College in São Paulo, where he spoke to Journalism and Advertising students.

    Real Estate Market

The Facamp Administration Week, held in September in São Paulo, was attended by the OR Compliance team, which spoke about the challenges and changes related to Compliance implemented by the company and about ethics and transparency in the real estate segment as part of a presentation organized by Odebrecht S.A..

    Innovation and Technology

In August, Odebrecht Engineering & Construction sponsored the 3rd Mechanical Engineering Week (SEMEC) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The company presented projects recognized by the academic community for their excellence and innovation. One highlight was the presentation of the innovative methods used to build the P-59 and P-60 platforms, which cut the final cost and made Odebrecht more competitive. Participating in the meeting, Braskem leaders also talked about the technology to print plastic parts on 3D printers  used by the International Space Station (ISS) out in space.
“The professors present told us that everything that was shown is exactly the message they would like to pass on to students about the computer tools and the need to prove the parameters in the laboratory,” said Jacques Raigorodski, the Odebrecht engineer who coordinated the company’s participation at the event.

    People in the Field

At Atvos, it is common for Business members and industrial centers to share knowledge with the universities located near the plants. Recently, Daniela Sebalhos, Coordinator of People & Organization at the Araguaia Center in Goiás, spoke with third-year Agronomy students from the Mineiros University Center (UNIFIMES).

The lectures by Nabor Nogueira, People & Organization Coordinator at the Eldorado Center, Mato Grosso do Sul, during the Academic Week for the University Course in Sugar-Alcohol Production Technology at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), also helped strengthen Atvos’ relationship with the university public.
