A consortium led by the Brazilian construction company has won a new project in the Port of Miami, with an investment of  BRL 320 million

OEC has just won another contract in the United States. The new project will enable the use of new electric gantry cranes, resulting in significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as increasing the operational efficiency of the Port of Miami, one of the most important in the country.

The project is part of the port’s carbon neutralization program and is designed to increase cargo handling and reduce dependence on diesel-powered equipment. The work also includes the construction of metal storage structures for refrigerated containers connected to the electricity grid. The brazilian construction company OEC was responsible for building the first phase of this project, which was delivered in 2021.

According to Luiz Simon, OEC’s Managing Director for the US and Guyana markets, this new achievement proves that the local population recognizes the quality of the services provided by the company. “We have a very positive track record in Florida, in particular, and we are excited about this opportunity to once again serve the Port of Miami, which will have a more efficient and sustainable operation,” he says.

    Port of the Americas

The Port of Miami, known as the Port of the Americas, is one of the most important in the United States and one of the largest in the world, with around 10.2 million tons of cargo handled and more than 7.3 million passengers transported each year.

     History in the country

OEC has been operating in the United States for 33 years. Among other projects, the company also participated in the construction of the international airport’s north and south terminals, as well as carrying out projects in the surrounding area, such as Metromover and MIA Mover – transportation systems that connect the airport to the rest of the city. With the Metromover project in downtown Miami, it became the first Brazilian company to carry out public works in the country.

Since its arrival in the United States, over 70 projects have been completed. The company was the first Brazilian to win an American public tender. The firm has a strong track record in Florida, carrying out half of its actions in the state, especially in Miami and the surrounding region. The company was responsible for the construction of some of Miami’s architectural icons, such as the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Arts, the Miami Heat basketball team’s arena, the elevated Golden Glades Interchange, the Florida International University Stadium, among other projects.
