OEC welcomes Zigurat students to exchange experiences on the use of BIM
DATE: 02/07/2024
On February 2, OEC welcomed Master’s students from the Zigurat Institute of Technology, based in Barcelona, during Student Week 2024, an initiative to promote training in BIM, the result of a partnership between the educational institution and the construction company.
The Director of Engineering and Innovation, Marcelo Piller, welcomed the guests and, in his opening message, emphasized that innovation has always been a natural practice for the company. He stressed the importance of using the new methodologies available so that improvements can be made to processes that have an impact on costs and deadlines, an action that translates into greater competitiveness.
Piller commented on the OEC’s use of BIM-related technologies for more than 20 years, such as laser scanning, reality capture, parametric models, drones, among others. Finally, he proposed a reflection on the moment of transformation we are going through, where the adoption of BIM is an irreversible practice.
On this occasion, OEC’s Innovation area gave an institutional presentation on the evolution of BIM in the company, which in 2022 started a specific center on the subject, responsible for corporate governance and technical knowledge management on the methodology. The structure of this governance was presented, as well as how it is managed, how it supports contracts, in addition to addressing actions to promote the acculturation and dissemination of BIM through webinars, podcasts, newsletters, and the portfolio of training programs offered to OEC members in partnership with the main educational institutes in the market.
The meeting presented the methodology for assessing the BIM maturity of OEC contracts, an assessment tool developed with the aim of mapping the use of BIM in the different contexts in which it is used. The main objective is to support contracts by offering advice on adopting BIM according to each specific need.
Finally, the case of Section 5 of the Sertão Alagoano Canal, developed by the consortium formed by OEC / TPF Engenharia, was presented. The work was selected for the Autodesk University 2023 event and received the InovaInfra 2023 award from O Empreiteiro magazine for the use of BIM in the project. The presentation was given by Omar Barreto, OEC’s Engineering Manager, who provided technical data on this project, which will serve 1.5 million people when completed. Omar highlighted the routines for producing technical information on the project, budget and construction, and highlighted the improvements in project flows and (re)planning. He also commented on the ability to carry out reviews in time to make the best decisions in coherent timeframes, as well as fluidity in productivity.
