Odebrecht Recognized for Two Projects at the Best and Largest Projects Award 2026
DATE: 10/07/2026
Odebrecht Engineering & Construction was honored on the evening of Tuesday, May 6, in São Paulo, for two infrastructure projects at the Best and Largest Projects Award 2026, organized by the Institute of Engineering in partnership with ConVisão CNC (Construction News Center). The Campo Grande Ring Road, in Rio de Janeiro, and the Vila Caiçara Outfall Project, in the coastal region of São Paulo, were selected to receive recognition during the National Engineering Week.
During the ceremony, organizers highlighted that the Rio de Janeiro project is part of the Campo Grande Mobility Plan and includes a series of interventions designed to improve traffic flow in one of the busiest commuting areas of the city’s West Zone. The project’s main milestone was the delivery of the Professor Moacyr Sreder Bastos Tunnel, the first tunnel ever built in the Campo Grande district. Consisting of two tunnels of approximately 500 meters each, it connects Caroba Road and Posse Road. The new route was designed to reduce travel time between the two locations from approximately 15 minutes to just three minutes.
Led by the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Infrastructure Department, this phase also includes a 420-meter underpass beneath Cesário de Melo Avenue, connecting Monteiro Road to the Alim Pedro Viaduct, as well as road improvements along Caroba Road and Artur Rios Street. The construction of the tunnel’s two galleries involved the excavation of 97,000 cubic meters of rock using the NATM methodology and Drill & Blast techniques in a densely populated urban residential area. The tunnel was delivered with state-of-the-art safety and automation systems compliant with current regulations, including ventilation and exhaust systems, LED lighting, fire prevention and suppression systems, and internal communication systems, all operated through a dedicated Control and Operations Center, which was also part of the contract scope.
In the state of São Paulo, Odebrecht faced a different kind of challenge: replacing part of a submarine structure responsible for transporting treated wastewater into the ocean. The Vila Caiçara Outfall Project, contracted by Sabesp, involved the installation of a new 1,500-meter section, as well as offshore transportation, positioning, and sinking operations. Execution required extensive logistical planning and technical precision, particularly during maritime transport and live connection activities with the existing system.
One of the project’s key innovations was the development of a custom-designed Raiser for the outfall diffuser section. Composed of a rigid HDPE pipe segment and a flexible section, the equipment was designed to improve wastewater dilution and dispersion in ocean currents while reducing the risk of structural damage caused by fishing nets.“Receiving recognition from the Institute of Engineering for two such distinct projects reinforces our delivery capability and Odebrecht’s commitment to the development of infrastructure in Brazil. Whether improving urban mobility or applying highly complex engineering solutions in offshore projects, our focus remains on delivering innovative technical solutions that generate a direct positive impact on society,” said Marcelo Piller, Odebrecht’s Engineering Director.
