Odebrecht Oil & Gas Member Wins Photography Award
DATE: 06/05/2017
A photo showing workers completing a welding activity on the flare – the mast of an oil rig – in the middle of the ocean, 95 meters high. It was with this image that an Odebrecht Oil & Gas member won a national contest promoted by the Brazilian Association of Non-Destructive Testing and Inspection (ABENDI).
Approximately 3,000 photos showing a range of different activities competed in the category “Rope Access,” which portrays professionals using specialized techniques with this type of equipment as part of their daily activities. The winning photo was taken in 2017 by Carlos Augusto Reid, Technical Supervisor and Level 3 Climber onboard a rig where Odebrecht Oil & Gas develops maintenance activities. He recorded the work of two colleagues from his group.
The flare, where the winning photo was taken, is the mast through which the gases of a rig are burned. The process prevents these gases from reaching the atmosphere and guarantees the safety of the workers onboard
The contest took place during COTEQ 2017, a conference for the equipment technology area that ran from May 15-18 in Rio de Janeiro. The examining board included specialists and instructors from different industries. Each participant sent in an average of five photos and the images had to show a beautiful setting – one that, of course, also met all safety requirements.
On the rig flares, the Business has 15 members on average who are trained to perform this type of activity, such as welding, painting, and cargo movement. Before boarding, they complete extensive training, including over 50 hours of theoretical and hands-on courses with experienced instructors.
