Ocyan registers its best safety rate in 2019

Ocyan registered last year the best safety rate in the company’s history, with a 0.58 Recordable Incident Frequency Rate, which is equivalent to 0.58 incidents for every 1 million man-hours worked. The result is the fruit of a long-term effort in the search for a robust and mature culture of safety, intensified from 2017 onwards, which involves continuous improvement of the asset integrity management system and people management, demonstrating in practice the company’s commitment to safety.

“This is an expressive mark we achieved last year, comparable to the best indicators of this industry worldwide, fruit of the involvement and commitment of the entire company and that indicates to us that we are on the right path to consolidate a sustainable safety culture. This performance also reflects the excellent operating performance of assets, creating a healthy work environment to perform activities,” celebrates Roberto Bischoff, Ocyan CEO.

According to the executive, the active participation of the leadership together with the members in the search for continuous improvement of operational discipline was fundamental to achieve the result.

“We reinforced specific training and behavioral management so that each and every activity was seen and understood as posing a risk and therefore the need to have the same level of attention and focus. This way we could reduce or even eliminate basic deviations that are normally not noticed”, he explains. Bischoff also points out that Ocyan recorded the severity rate with only 2.46 days lost with work-related incidents; in addition to a 50% reduction in the rate of high-potential incidents and a 25% reduction in the days lost by medical certification, both compared to 2018.

Still in this context, the work has led Ocyan to achieve new certifications – further recognition of the company’s efforts in the search for operational excellence with safety. The safety indices included 1,338 company members, in addition to 497 subcontractors, who perform operational functions at the base in Macaé (RJ) and in all the company units.
