Ocyan is certified Carbon Neutral
DATE: 09/14/2023
Ocyan has acquired the ‘Carbon Neutral’ label by offsetting 100% of the emissions from its direct operations and energy consumption, also known as Scopes 1 and 2.
“We reduced 100% of our electricity consumption emissions last year by purchasing green electricity from renewable energy plants (wind power) from I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate). Both the purchase and use reduced Ocyan’s CO2 emissions by approximately 67.5 tons, which is equivalent to 1,591 MWh. All this compensation work has the benefit of reducing the environmental impact of our operations,” says Marcelo Mafra, Ocyan’s Vice President of Sustainability.
Another objective achieved by Ocyan in the offsetting of greenhouse gas emissions from direct operations is the acquisition of carbon credits. Each credit purchased represented the offsetting of one ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the environment. Ocyan acquired 7,828 carbon credits and mitigated impacts equivalent to 7,828 tons of CO2, which represents a 20% reduction in our emissions compared to emissions in the base year 2021, the year in which the company made its commitment.
Partnership with Carbonext
Ocyan has partnered with Carbonext to carry out its offsets. Carbonext, which is a pioneer in Brazil in projects to protect the Amazon, has been generating carbon credits for over 10 years and works to bring people and companies closer to the agenda of combating climate change.
Through the offsetting activity, Ocyan has achieved climate neutrality for its emissions and becomes a carbon neutral company. “We have reaffirmed our commitment to being at the forefront of the fight against climate change and protecting the environment, especially Brazil’s largest biome, the Amazon,” said Mafra.
