Ocyan adopts new business model in order to innovate offshore maintenance unit
DATE: 03/28/2019
Ocyan, through the Offshore Maintenance and Services unit, has entered into an agreement with Canadian company Tube-Mac to offer a new technology for players in the oil and gas and petrochemical markets in Brazil. This technology enables the installation and assembly of pipes using cold worked, non-welded connections called Pyplok®. The initiative is part of Ocyan’s strategy to bring to Brazil technological solutions that can be applied in the sector and are used outside the country, through partnerships with foreign companies that do not yet operate locally. Tube-Mac is the first partner.
“Today, the market demands this change, which is a response to the growth of activities and operations in the business. Our objective is to join companies that complement our services by adding innovation to increase our capacity to deliver, improve the cost-benefit ratio and reduce risks, an important factor for safety, our main value,” explains Vinicius Castilho, director of Ocyan’s Offshore Maintenance and Services unit.
Tube-Mac’s material enables non-welded interventions and assemblies to be made in pipes from 1/4″up to 4″ and metric connections from 6mm up to 60mm, with pressures up to 10,000 psi and temperature up to 205 º C. The installation process requires less time, bringing greater efficiency and operational safety during interventions. “By comparison, the installation of 10 pieces of Pyplok can be made in just 2 hours, while the same work with the weld can take between 1 to 2 days”, explains the director of Ocyan.
Vinicius points out that the solution has been used in several projects abroad, being widely utilized in the oil and gas sector by major international companies such as Equinor, Shell, Chevron, Aker, NOV and by Ocyan itself during the assembly of the Delba III semisubmersible rig out of the country. In addition, Pyplok connections have certifications from DNV, Lloyds, ABS, BV and RMS (“Russian Maritime Register of Shipping”).
Tube-Mac’s non-welded (Pyplok) connections, in general, have low installation costs, shorter man/hours worked, leak-free system, longer durability, and ease of installation. The use of this cold worked technology eliminates the need for additional inspections by Non-Destructive Testing. PYPLOK’s cold worked technology is safe and reliable.
Ocyan’s Maintenance and Offshore Services unit provides maintenance and assembly services of assets that include integrated planning of maintenance activities, planning and execution of production and drilling shutdowns, solutions in repairs, maintenance and modification projects (welding, assembling, piping and electrical/instrumentation), industrial painting and high-performance painting, engineering projects, commissioning services, and others. With 17 years of experience, the unit has over 30 contracts, more than 10,000 tons assembled onboard to offshore installations, 1 million m2 painted and 14 million meters of scaffoldings assembled, for example.
