Roundtable brought together experts to discuss the role of science, risk management, and the insurance market in helping municipalities adapt to climate change.

Horiens participated in the roundtable Climate Change and Its Impacts on Municipalities: Scientific Contributions to Adaptation and Mitigation Actions, organized by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) and the Brazilian Confederation of Insurance Companies (CNseg) during São Paulo Climate Week 2026.

Horiens was represented by Eduardo Felix Damião, Risk & Insurance Director, and Marcio Santos, Head of Risk Labs, who joined the discussions alongside Bárbara Sentelhas, CEO of Agrymet, a Horiens partner, as well as other invited guests, including researchers, public sector representatives, multilateral organizations, and leaders from the insurance industry.

The event continued discussions initiated during London Climate Action Week 2026 and brought together experts to discuss how science, risk modeling, and risk transfer mechanisms can support adaptation and mitigation strategies in response to the impacts of climate change.

Topics addressed included insurance as a tool for financing municipal climate resilience, the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events, impacts on agriculture and livestock production, water security, as well as econometric models for measuring climate risks and their economic and financial impacts.

Horiens’ participation reinforces its commitment to developing risk management solutions and advancing initiatives that bring together science, technology, and the market to support organizations and public authorities in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

Marcio Santos, Head of Risk Labs at Horiens

“The discussion reinforced a point we already observe in our daily risk management work: climate change requires immediate decision-making, even in the face of uncertainty. One of the key challenges remains the availability of more granular and accessible climate data, which is essential for strengthening predictive models and guiding adaptation and mitigation strategies. It also became clear that no single solution will be sufficient on its own. Science, technology, the public sector, the insurance industry, and private enterprise must work together to build a coordinated climate resilience agenda. At Horiens, we seek to transform data and knowledge into actionable intelligence that helps companies make informed decisions in the face of increasingly complex risks.”
