With the deployment of remote work for all onshore members (em terra) during the new Coronavirus pandemic, Ocyan kept real-time fleet tracking of its assets through SMART technology (Real Time Advanced Tracking System). The system, which provides for the intensive use of artificial intelligence from the monitoring of integrated data and images generated by cameras, was already available in its digital version with computer access even before this period, but it has become essential in times of social distancing and the possibility of remote tracking of operations of the company’s drilling assets.

The great advantage of the tool is that the data can be accessed on laptops, not requiring the physical presence of the member in the control rooms of the company’s basis in Macaé (RJ). Ocyan SMART has tripled its access since mid-March and is already preparing a version available for smartphones. The use of technology enhances safety with our members while keeping the standard of our operations.

“Before social isolation, remote access to the data generated from the Decision Support Center was already possible (CSD)but it has only been put to the test now that the operators are working in their homes. And the program passed the test, Also with all information security rules preserved. The company will emerge strengthened from this period of pandemic because all activities continue normally – from the operation of probes and rigs to ground support activities”, explains Rodrigo Chamusca, responsible for Technology and Innovation at Ocyan’s Drilling Business Unit.

Ocyan SMART is the first integrated system for monitoring probe activities in Brazil to cover the six dimensions provided, allowing the gathering of data previously sprayed into separate supervision systems. Today, the company integrates and makes available data related to drilling, well control, power management, dynamic positioning, in addition to the internal TV circuit cameras of the rigs. BOP Monitoring (Blowout Preventer) should be added to Ocyan SMART’s scope in August this year, which demonstrates the company’s pioneering spirit in the search for technological and innovative solutions.

The work of SMART, even with remote access, has also contributed to increasing the overall productivity of the operations. The company also kept the recordable incident rate at zero so far in 2020.

    Accesses have grown

SMART access has tripled during this period of social isolation, further extending the application of data to leverage the operation uptime. “Before the pandemic, an average of 100 people accessed the information every week. Now the number has jumped to 300. And no extra investment was needed, as Ocyan already had been planning this jump since the project was created. Later this year, we intend to allow access via cell phone,” explains Chamusca. According to him, the crisis room will remain active even with the convenience of remote access. “We think it’s important to keep the crisis room for future decision-making,” he concludes.
