The growing number of judicial and extrajudicial restructuring filings in Brazil has placed Credit Insurance at the center of corporate risk management strategies. Against this backdrop, Horiens, Avla, and the Brazilian Institute of Finance Executives of São Paulo (IBEF-SP) brought together market experts for the panel “Your Next Default Is Already in Your Portfolio: The Role of Credit Insurance in Times of Judicial and Extrajudicial Restructuring.”

Held in June at the IBEF-SP headquarters in São Paulo, the event explored the impacts of this scenario on the corporate environment and the alternatives available to mitigate financial risks.

After surpassing the milestone of R$1 billion in written premiums in 2025, the Brazilian Credit Insurance market continues to show strong growth potential, driven by companies seeking greater protection in an economic environment marked by volatility, liquidity challenges, and increasing default risks. Despite this progress, market penetration remains relatively low compared with more developed economies, reinforcing the segment’s expansion prospects in the coming years.

According to Matheus Chammas, Director of Surety, Credit Insurance, and Political Risk at Horiens, the solution’s value extends far beyond indemnification in the event of default. “Credit Insurance includes a significant service component. Its return on investment cannot be measured simply by comparing the premium paid with the recovered claim. Beyond insurance coverage, the policy has a direct impact on the balance sheet: it optimizes credit and collections management, enables the release of provisions for doubtful accounts, improves EBITDA, and facilitates the advance of receivables at much more competitive market rates.”

Chammas also highlighted that brokers and insurers have been expanding their role in providing business intelligence to clients, supporting risk monitoring, counterparty analysis, and more informed commercial decision-making.
