At the end of May, Horiens brought together more than 200 insured members from the companies it supports in People Insurance management for a live session dedicated to an increasingly relevant topic: the responsible use of health plans.

The meeting aimed to promote information, education, and reflection on practices that contribute to the sustainability of this benefit, one of the most valued by employees.

The session was moderated by Érica Cela, a member of Horiens’ People Insurance team. “Promoting educational-focused meetings is essential, as we are all part of this agenda, which is strategic for both people and companies. Taking good care of the plan makes a difference for everyone,” she emphasized.

Érica also highlighted Horiens’ role in supporting companies through qualified policy management and by promoting initiatives that encourage responsible use of the benefit.

Specialists provide practical guidance and insights

The invited speakers were Bruna Schossler, a nurse specializing in prevention and health promotion, and Carolina Carvalho Pereira Matos, a researcher and specialist in healthcare management and innovation. Both shared practical examples and accessible guidance for insured members’ daily lives.

Bruna Schossler emphasized the importance of an integrated approach to healthcare. “It is essential not to act in a fragmented way. Having a primary care physician or family doctor helps organize and better monitor your health, which is positive both for well-being and for the sustainable use of the plan.”

Carolina Matos highlighted collective responsibility. “A health plan is a collective benefit, and each person’s behavior impacts everyone. Being attentive to information and acting consciously is crucial to ensuring the system’s sustainability,” she explained.

Responsible use: small actions that make a big difference

Key recommendations shared during the session:

    • Adopt a preventive approach to your health
    • Prioritize scheduled consultations and use emergency services only in urgent situations
    • Carefully read documents and forms before signing
    • Maintain regular medical follow-ups and keep exams up to date
    • Use the plan’s accredited network whenever possible
    • Cancel appointments in advance if unable to attend

    Combating fraud and improper practices

Another important topic addressed was the fight against irregular practices that harm the entire healthcare system. Examples mentioned include:

    • Splitting receipts to increase reimbursement amounts
    • Requesting reimbursement without having made a payment
    • Lending the health plan card to others
    • Sharing login data or using false documents

These practices are illegal and contribute to rising costs, directly impacting premium adjustments and the plan’s sustainability. In case of doubt or if you identify providers acting unlawfully, it is important to contact the health insurance operator.

More information, more positive actions for the sustainability of health plans!
