DATE: 05/07/2026
On 30 May, in Huíla Province, Odebrecht Angola, through the Drought Combat Project, held the Consignment Ceremony for the construction of the N’Ompombo Dam on the Caculuvar River, in Quihita Commune. The project also includes associated works such as water supply systems for the communes of Chimbemba and Chiange-Gambos, in Gambos Municipality, supplied by the adduction canal linked to the dam. The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, formally consigned the works, which form part of the national programme to mitigate the effects of drought in Southern Angola.
The programme comprises 12 intervention lots in the province, directly benefiting more than 370,000 people, while strengthening food security, the rural economy, and social stability. Odebrecht will be responsible for lots H7 and H11.
The ceremony was attended by the provincial governor, Nuno Mahapi, and the Secretary of State for Water, António Belsa da Costa. Odebrecht was represented by DS Africa Rodrigo Melo and the project’s Contract Director, Gibran Loor.
