Successful completion of the first Tombador Iron operation at Tup Enseada
DATE: 03/02/2023
The first loading operation of the Supramax MV Doric Javelin (57,000dwt) ship, destined for Asia, was finished in the early morning of February 06, to export ore from the mining company Tombador Iron, through the Private Use Terminal of Enseada Indústria Naval (TUP Enseada). A very successful operation as the 1st big milestone of this synergy between the parties, which can be seen in the video below.
The ship loading operation, which takes place uninterruptedly from the moment the ship is docked at the TUP Enseada wharf, counts on countless preventive actions regarding impacts and operational safety, starting with the monitoring of the operation’s engineering and safety technicians who are attentive to all the service’s execution stages, seeking to ensure the prevention of impacts to the environment and to protect the health of all the professionals involved in the action, with the goal of zero accidents.
Among the ways of preventing environmental impacts we can mention the procedure of conducting the entire operation slowly and with assistance, reducing the possibility of any kind of incident; use of protective tarpaulins on the sides of the ships, which prevents the possible fall of ore into the river; monitoring the levels of black smoke emitted by the vehicles, machinery and equipment involved in the operation, avoiding air pollution; the internal wetting of the tracks to avoid the dispersion of particulates; in addition to the collection and correct disposal of the residues generated and the use of environmental kits for the immediate removal of eventual spills of fuel, oil, and grease, in these cases already to mitigate a possible impact.
As for the workers, the main form of impact prevention is the correct use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), These are long pants, shirt with sleeves, helmet, mask, goggles, balaclava, boot, ear protection, and glove. In addition, Enseada ensures that the workers have the proper training to work in different areas, such as working at height, where NR 35 is applied. The use of PPE is mandatory, and the HSE team inspects its use on a daily basis.
