OEC Conexão Podcast talks about the importance of BIM for building evolution

Wilton Catelani, president of BIM Forum Brasil, talks about the methodology’s contributions to optimize new buildings and make them more sustainable

The changes in the way Architecture, Engineering and Construction work generated by Building Information Modeling (BIM) provide a faster, more integrated, innovative and sustainable environment. The methodology already required by law, in a transition period, is the topic of conversation in the second episode of the OEC Conexão podcast, which aired today, August 3, with guest Wilton Catelani.

BIM provides integration between the various areas and processes of building, providing and demanding greater synergy between those involved in the project and performs simulations of various stages of building, allowing from logistics studies to simulations of carbon footprint and costs involved before, during, and after delivery.

The discussion on this topic is essential, since the impact of the methodology for Brazil will be significant in the coming years. In 2018, the Federal Government created the National Strategy for Dissemination of Building Information Modeling – BIM, known as BR BIM Strategy. Decree 10.306 published in 2020 will require BIM as a requirement for construction companies to participate in public tenders for large construction projects as early as 2024.

Catelani is president of BIM Forum Brasil (BFB) and one of the eight BIM experts invited by the Federal Government’s Strategic Committee to collaborate with the development of the BR BIM Strategy, to further disseminate the methodology. According to him, “in Brazil we already have very advanced experiences, but we do not talk about them very much”.

The OEC Conexão podcast discusses topics related to the improvement of processes in heavy construction, always with the objective of promoting a new look on possibilities of increasing productivity and competitiveness. The first podcast episode brought the interview with the civil engineer and former director of the OEC, Carlos Hermanny Filho, with more than 6 thousand accesses on Youtube and Spotify. The institutional program and podcast format counted on the special advice of Altavive, whose founder, Claudio Cardoso, is the program’s curator and interviewer. Cardoso has a doctor’s degree in Communication from USP, is a retired professor from Universidade Federal da Bahia, and worked in the conception, among other cases, of InovaBra Habitat, the innovation ecosystem of Bradesco bank, where the OEC is present.

The podcast is part of the OEC IN ecosystem, an OEC initiative aimed at devising solutions to challenges faced at the company’s construction sites and offices. It was structured with basis on four aspects: developing an internal culture focused on Innovation mobilization and engagement; connect the OEC to open innovation; provide technical support in technological upgrading, knowledge management, and digital transformation processes; and position the construction company as a protagonist that fosters and integrates innovation in its industry.
