Reinforcing its strategy to launch initiatives that value the plastic waste recycling chain through the Wecycle platform, Braskem has partnered with Condor, manufacturer of real estate painting materials and other products, to develop the “Special Sustainable Kit” for painting using post-consumer plastic.

This is the first product manufactured by reusing plastic packaging of printing and road marking paints.  Recommended for painting walls and smooth surfaces and for finishing, the kit consists of a tray, a brush, two paint rollers and a mounting bracket.

The partnership was formed after a study by Braskem, which identified that paint manufacturers and printing companies needed to find a way to properly dispose of their packaging, reusing the material at a competitive cost. After that, through the Wecycle platform, the discarded packaging was collected for recycling and production of post-consumer polypropylene resin.

Braskem currently collects approximately 5,000 packages discarded every month by companies in the paint segment, but expects to double that number this year. By using the packaging collected, the company supplies two tons of post-consumer polypropylene resin to Condor every month and this quantity can increase depending on demand.

“Braskem strives to create innovative solutions that promote sustainable development and meet the demands of our clients and society. The partnership with Condor is an example of this. By studying the market, we could propose a solution for one of the challenges facing the industry, while also creating a sustainable product, coming full circle. Initiatives such as this underscore our commitment to the circular economy,” said Roger Marchioni, director of Braskem’s Polypropylene Business.

Through the Wecycle platform, Braskem seeks to foster businesses that value plastic waste throughout the production chain, contributing to initiatives involving recycling, post-consumer products and the environment.
