The Enseada-Tenenge Consortium, formed by the Enseada Shipyard and the industrial engineering and construction company Tenenge, has signed a contract with Compagnie Maritime Monegasque (CMM) for the construction of six large multipurpose hybrid vessels (PSVs-OSRVs) with a gross tonnage capacity of 5,000 tons. The vessels will be operated by Petrobras under long-term charter contracts, expected to last 12 years.

Designed to offer high efficiency and versatility in offshore operations, the ships will feature cutting-edge technology, including Kongsberg Ship Design and a hybrid propulsion system powered by Wärtsilä engines. This combination will enable up to 30% fuel savings compared to conventional models. Additionally, the PSVs-OSRVs will be prepared for future adaptation to ethanol as fuel, which could reduce carbon emissions by up to 70%.

The vessels will be built at the Enseada Shipyard, located in Maragogipe, Bahia, and are expected to generate around 1,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect ones, boosting the local economy and strengthening Brazil’s naval industry. The project also represents a significant step forward in developing technical and industrial capabilities in the region.

Tenenge, the industrial project arm of the construction company Odebrecht, which has just celebrated its 80th anniversary, has extensive experience in complex projects in the oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper, and energy sectors, and will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence in project execution.

Enseada boasts world-class infrastructure, with steel processing capacity of 100,000 tons per year, automated workshops covering 70,000 m², and state-of-the-art cargo handling equipment. The industrial plant was originally designed to meet the demands of Brazil’s pre-salt oil fields, especially in the construction of FPSO platforms.

The Novonor Group, to which Enseada and Tenenge belong, reinforces its commitment to innovation and sustainability by integrating decades of engineering expertise with local resources to deliver high-standard projects for the naval and industrial sectors.

CMM, a Dutch-Brazilian maritime group with operational headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, specializes in offshore operations and maritime transport, and stands out for its commitment to sustainable and technological solutions in the naval sector.

According to Maurício Almeida, Chairman of the Board of Enseada and Director at Tenenge, this is a pivotal moment for the Brazilian industry, as it marks the resumption of Petrobras investments in Bahia — the state where it extracted its first oil on national territory in the 1950s — and strongly reinforces the vocation of the Enseada Shipyard, which has already been working with other major clients in shipbuilding, metal structure manufacturing, and as a private-use logistics terminal.
