Health, after all, is what makes us want to live well and chase our dreams, isn’t it? Make sure you’re taking care of all the important aspects to keep your health up to date!
We’re starting a new year, a symbolic time to renew plans, challenge ourselves to go further and, most importantly, achieve. Taking the first step towards greater well-being or continuing on the path you’ve already embarked on is decisive for your present and future, which is why we’re bringing you essential information to help you on this journey.
But what does it mean to be healthy in the first place?
Far beyond the absence of disease, when we talk about health it is important to consider a broader concept, also known as integral health. As early as 1946, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, which is closely linked to quality of life and well-being.
Become aware of the value of prevention
Prevention is better than cure. To act today is to enjoy well-being tomorrow and there’s no secret to getting there! Just start again every day and don’t give up when the day doesn’t go as planned. Make a decision in favor of your health, with discipline, and don’t be in a hurry, remember that it takes constancy to get results.
Take a look at 5 essential attitudes for your health:
1. Conscious eating
Reduce alcoholic drinks and processed foods such as soft drinks, snacks, cookies, etc. as much as possible. These types of foods are associated with a number of diseases, such as heart disease and cancer. The basis of your diet is real food, such as fresh meat and fish, eggs, grains and legumes, fruit, vegetables, olive oils, herbs and spices.
2. Exercise
Aerobic activities and resistance training should be practiced for at least 150 minutes a week and at least 3 times a week. Also, reduce your sedentary lifestyle throughout the day by taking breaks from sitting every 30 minutes. Try to include sport in your lifestyle, as it is a type of activity that brings benefits to your physical, mental and social well-being.
3. Don’t underestimate oral health
Go to the dentist twice a year. In everyday life, know that a good brushing doesn’t last 30 seconds, but about 2 minutes, and that flossing should be done daily, getting into the gingival sulcus. Many diseases are associated with oral health, such as heart disease and diabetes, and there are even studies that point to the relationship between oral health and other serious illnesses, so pay attention to this pillar of health.
4. Sleep well
After all, restful sleep is one of the best remedies for health, improving the immune system, memory and much more. For a good night’s sleep, it’s important to have a routine of going to bed and waking up at similar times. Also, hours before bedtime, disconnect from screens and avoid stimulating foods such as coffee.
5. Do more for your mental health
Depression and anxiety are two of the main mental disorders of our time and affect a large part of the world’s population, unfortunately at an increasing rate. It is known that a healthy diet rich in antioxidants, regular exercise and social connections are fundamental to mental health. Warning: if you notice that something isn’t right, don’t hesitate to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
