Resumption: first batch of mining barges built at the Enseada Shipyard is delivered in Bahia
DATE: 01/27/2026
This Monday, the 26th, the Enseada Shipyard received a visit from Jerônimo Rodrigues, Governor of the State of Bahia; Jaques Wagner, Senator of the Republic; and state secretaries, who attended the delivery of the first batch of 13 mining barges built for the client Lhg Mining. This project, carried out in partnership with Tenenge, part of the Novonor Group, materialized the resumption of operations at the Enseada Shipyard, generating around 600 new direct jobs and up to 900 indirect jobs, resulting in a significant impact on the Recôncavo Baiano region.
On the occasion, which also included the presence of more than 500 workers, Governor Jerônimo highlighted the importance of the symbolic act not only for the state, but for the country. “We are witnessing a naval industry that is resuming its role in Brazil, its sovereignty. And I am very happy to be here alongside the workers and business leaders, partners in this achievement.” Senator Jaques Wagner emphasized the cutting-edge technology used in the project. “Being here only reinforces that we need technology and industrialization, and not to be merely exporters of grain or ore. Even better than exporting ore are the barges built here, with our own capacity. Congratulations to all the workers and those responsible for this order,” he said.
In total, up to 80 mining barges will be built at the Enseada Shipyard, each with a capacity to transport 2,900 tons. The construction of the Lhg Mining barges is being carried out by four Brazilian shipyards located in the North and Northeast regions, including Enseada, one of the largest shipyards in the country, located in Bahia. Also present during the visit, Darlan Carvalho, Logistics Director at Lhg Mining, highlighted the relevance of the resumption. “I was here some time ago and saw everything stopped, a shipyard with so much capacity, quality, and technology. And today we are here, a short time later, launching the first barges of a project made possible by the merit of many people. I must also say that what is being built here is in no way inferior to what is done elsewhere,” he concluded.
On behalf of the Novonor Group, Mauricio Almeida, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Enseada and Director at Tenenge, thanked all partners and emphasized the relevance of the shipyard. “We have the largest steel processing capacity in Brazil and the largest crane in Latin America. Now, we are back stronger than ever, with an asset that is the most important and that we were able to preserve: the skilled workforce of the people of Bahia who are here. These thirteen vessels are a seed planted back in 2010. Many here went to Japan for training and have now returned to work with us again. It is a great satisfaction to be part of this history together with you,” he added.
The Enseada Shipyard was designed for the construction and integration of offshore units, such as platforms, specialized vessels, and drilling units. It is considered the largest private investment in the Brazilian shipbuilding industry, with approximately USD 1 billion already invested. The shipyard, which is part of an industrial and logistics complex, was established in Maragojipe, Bahia. With a strategic location that fosters the development of industrial projects, it has the capacity to process more than 100,000 tons of steel per year and features approximately 1,000 meters of quay.
