Braskem received recognition from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the UN Global Compact within the scope of the RBCLAC project – Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean

Braskem received recognition from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the UN Global Compact within the scope of the RBCLAC project – Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean, for practices related to the preservation of Human Rights within their business operations. A publication on the matter was released this month highlighting relevant cases from several Latin American companies. After a screening by the organization, twelve cases were selected, two of them from Braskem, “Social Responsibility and Human Rights” and “Public Reporting on Human Rights”. Both cases relate to the renewal of the company’s commitments to sustainable development for 2030.

The material, which celebrates ten years of the UN’s Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, recognizes, through the cases presented, Braskem’s initiatives on the Human Rights front, highlighting their commitment within this pillar. This is also a multidisciplinary theme that, at Braskem, encompasses several aspects: local development, diversity, equity and inclusion, risks and direct social impacts on the surrounding community, and risks related to the value chain, and others.

This year, the company, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, assumed new commitments divided into seven dimensions, comprising social responsibility and human rights. In this dimension, the goals involve promoting the development of communities surrounding the industrial plants, increasing the number of women in leadership roles, increasing the number of black people in the workforce, and managing 100% of high and medium risks of human rights throughout the value chain. Everything in search for a better future for the next generations.

Braskem is the only Brazilian company in the Global Compact LEAD group

Also this year, Braskem once again was recognized as a Leading Company in Sustainable Development by the UN Global Compact (Global Compact LEAD). This is a select group of companies that have had their commitments to the UN Global Compact recognized and that assume a leadership role within the Global Compact, considered the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. More than 14 thousand companies from all over the world participate in the Global Compact and, from these companies, only 37 companies were included in the UN Global Compact’s LEAD group, with Braskem being the only Brazilian company included in said group.
