OEC works on decarbonization actions
DATE: 11/09/2023
In 2023, OEC reinforces its commitment to positive climate solutions through the reduction and offsetting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) aligned with the ESG positioning of the Novonor Group.
Structuring its decarbonization strategy, the company conducts research and implements initiatives focused on fleet management, the adoption of biofuels, and the improvement of energy efficiency, as well as the use of less carbon-intensive inputs, especially in the steel and cement chains.
An example of this initiative is the adoption of 100% biofuel for the light fleet in Brazil. Previously, 600,000 liters of gasoline fueled this fleet, resulting in emissions of approximately 1,000 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2eq). The company now exclusively uses 100% ethanol for its light vehicle fleet, a Brazilian biofuel that is widely available and known for its low CO2eq emissions.
“This move represents a step towards a more sustainable future and is in line with Novonor’s ESG positioning and OEC’s ongoing commitment to adhering to more positive climate actions,” concludes Alexandre Baltar, responsible for ESG at OEC and Novonor.
