OEC in Angola supports the fight against the pandemic
DATE: 08/18/2020
Within the scope of the Covid-19 Pandemic Combat Program, the OEC in Angola provided equipment and labor for the execution of emergency works, pipeline repairs, distribution networks, pumps, supply of 500-liter tanks and availability of trucks -pipa in Luanda. Support arises with the aim of providing regular water supply to the population and social infrastructure.
In addition, hygiene and biosafety materials such as alcohol, alcohol gel, disposable gloves and masks, hospital masks and medical protective clothing were also donated. In the province of Cuanza Norte, a water reservoir with a capacity of 500 thousand liters was built, enough to supply 7 thousand families. ‘Giraffes’ were also installed, which make it possible to supply trucks to distribute water to the population.
In Namibe province, basic food baskets, furniture for social shelters and alcohol gel were delivered to meet emergency needs. The action also extends to the province of Benguela, where liquid alcohol was also donated, contributing to hygiene and disease prevention. Despite all the actions already taken, the OEC will continue to support communities in the regions where it operates.
Social responsability
Among the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the limitation of access to individual protective equipment in communities in the interior of the country is identified. Aware of this, OEC, GAMEK and the Municipal Administration decided to create a social program in the communities surrounding AH Laúca, simultaneously contributing to the training, income generation and protection of these populations. The program consists of training communities in cutting and sewing by trained professionals, with a focus on cloth production. In each of the locations, adequate infrastructures were created, sewing machines were installed and raw materials for production were supplied.
People will be guided and trained by professionals for the production of masks, creating an opportunity to generate extra income and protect their communities (N’Gola Ndala, Fishermen’s Village and Yang ya Pepe) against Covid-19. In this way, the OEC reinforces its commitment to act in a sustainable manner with a focus on training people, generating jobs and valuing the Angolan citizen.
