Interns experience immersion in Odebrecht Angola’s construction sites
DATE: 10/02/2025
Last September, interns from the DS Angola office had the opportunity to put into practice the theoretical knowledge they’ve gained over the past six months. For two weeks, the nine interns visited the Lobito Refinery and the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal construction sites, where they experienced an integrated view of the worksite reality under the supervision of professionals assigned to the projects.
For Odebrecht Angola, the future of these young people represents not only inspiration and renewal, but also the implementation of actions in the present that make a difference in their development.
“The initiative aims to ensure that interns understand the essence of the engineering and construction business through practice on field experience, aligned with technical content and daily operational activities on site. It also creates a space to stimulate critical thinking and identifying improvements within each intern’s area of focus, strengthening both their technical and behavioral development,” says Allan Chan, Head of People at DS Angola.
Cristina Afonso, an intern in the Human Resources area, shared how intense the experience was and how it provided a broad and integrated view of how different sectors work together to ensure the success of a large-scale project. “More than learning about processes and routines, I was able to understand how each decision directly impacts the progress of the project, deadlines, costs, and especially people. I take with me valuable lessons about management, communication between areas , organizational culture, and above all, the importance of teamwork. Being on-site, experiencing the practice and exchanging knowledge with experienced professionals was essential to consolidate everything I’ve been learning during the internship.”
