H2Olmos concessionaire launches project focused on sustainable agriculture
DATE: 06/06/2025
H2Olmos, the Nova Infra Invest concessionaire responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Olmos irrigation system, together with the company AgroLeal and the Rázuri León family, has launched the “Olmos Siembra” project through the signing of an agreement to implement a demonstration plot for the production of mango, corn, chala (forage), avocado, and goat farming.
This signing marks the beginning of a major initiative aimed at teaching small farmers—directly in the field—the technical feasibility of alternative crops, based on prior technical and economic studies, to promote the development of the Olmos Valley.
“At H2Olmos, we commissioned AgroLeal to conduct a detailed study on the feasibility of a new business model involving the cultivation of various crops on a single plot, with sustainable long-term economic benefits. The field study revealed the need for small farmers to have a guaranteed market where they can sell their products,” explains Alfonso Pinillos, General Manager of H2Olmos.
In the first phase of the Olmos Siembra project, the demonstration plot will include: one hectare of avocado, one hectare of mango, two hectares of corn, and one hectare of chala. The goal is to develop a complementary cropping scheme that combines fast-rotation species with permanent crops and goat farming, ensuring a continuous income stream during the waiting period for the main harvest.
In the second phase, the project aims to add value to milk production and cheese processing, benefiting goat farmers in Olmos.
The Olmos Siembra project is a business model that integrates small farmers, agribusiness companies, and the H2Olmos concessionaire to strengthen the value chain and generate sustainable development in the Olmos Valley.
