Final “Estai” Cable of the Guaratuba Bridge Installed as Project Nears Completion
DATE: 03/02/2026
On February 28, the final high-strength steel cable, known in engineering as a “stay cable,” was installed on the Guaratuba Bridge in Paraná. The completion of this stage represents one of the most emblematic milestones of the project carried out by the Nova Ponte Consortium, formed by Odebrecht Engenharia & Construção, Carioca, and GEL.
The cable-stayed segment, technically considered the most complex part of the project, also constitutes the main architectural feature of the structure spanning Guaratuba Bay. In total, 12 pairs of stay cables were installed on each of the two pylons located at supports 04 and 05, ensuring structural stability and the necessary conditions for the safe operation of the bridge.
Construction of the new connection between the municipalities of Matinhos and Guaratuba reached 94% completion by the end of February. Among the completed milestones is the launching of 160 longitudinal girders in the precast section, which will be integrated into the cable-stayed system, consolidating the structural continuity of the project.
In parallel with the completion of the superstructure, teams continue to carry out complementary works essential to the bridge’s functionality and safety. Ongoing activities include the installation of central and side concrete barriers, electrical conduits along the pedestrian walkway, and guardrails, as well as the pouring of concrete on the walkway and the implementation of the public lighting system.
The project is entering its final phase, reinforcing the commitment to delivering a modern, safe infrastructure that is strategic for mobility and highly anticipated by the population of Paraná.
