In March this year, the Municipal Government of Belo Horizonte authorized the start of the concession agreement with the concessionaire Saúde BH for the construction and rendering of administrative services for 40 healthcare units. The construction of the buildings will be executed by OEC.

The units provided for in the contract are located in nine regions of Belo Horizonte and, once finished, will have capacity to serve some 600,000 people. The Healthcare Centers will have a reception, administrative area, offices for the Family Healthcare Teams, drugstore, waiting room, sample collection and vaccine room, as well as observation, first aid and cleaning rooms. The design also includes dental offices, multiuse rooms, cafeteria and common areas, dressing rooms and restrooms, spaces for community agents and epidemic control measures, with a built-up area of 40,000 square meters.

In addition to construction, the concessionaire also will operate services, such as cleaning, conservation, building maintenance and security, clinical engineering and utility management. Services related to medical services will remain under the responsibility of the municipal government.

Construction began on April 4 with the Healthcare Center of the Cabana do Pai Tomás district. The other 39 units are scheduled to start soon after the release of project finance from the concessionaire. The total value of the construction is projected at R$215 million.

The operation is similar to the successful OEC experience with the Schools PPP managed by Inova BH, a company sold to Grupo Transpes in October 2018. It was Brazil’s first Public-Private Partnership in the area of education. With the construction and operation of 51 schools, over 30,000 students were served during the five years it was managed by OEC.
