The Baixo Iguaçu Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), located on the Iguaçu River in Paraná, started generating energy on January 30, with one Kaplan turbine operating. With the capacity to generate up to 116.7 MW, the turbine is the first of three generating units to produce energy.

The second generating unit will also start commercial operations within the next few days. It is envisaged that the three turbines will be operating in March this year, providing a total of 350.2 MW of installed power.

One of the energy undertakings of lower environmental impact in the country, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP, with its delivery to the client, the Baixo Iguaçu Entrepreneurial Consortium (Neoenergia and Copel), envisaged for March this year, will have the capacity to supply one million people.
