Atvos expands its action in the UN Global Compact
DATE: 09/03/2020
Committed to developing sustainable solutions for society, Atvos is intensifying its commitment to the UN (United Nations) Global Compact. The company became a member of the Advisory Council of Network Brazil and now has representatives on all seven action fronts, in addition to assuming the coordination of the Agro Sustainable Platform, a working group that brings together businesses, agribusiness organizations and governments to promote efficient and sustainable production systems.
“Given the relevance of the Global Compact in encouraging good business practices, we think this is the time to move forward in leading the agribusiness debate. The sugar-energy sector can contribute and also evolve with the experience of other productive chains”, explains Amaury Pekelman, in charge for the Sustainability, Government and Institutional Relations and Atvos’ representative on the Advisory Council of Global Compact Network Brazil.
As the new coordinator of the Agro Sustainable Platform, Mônica Alcântara, in charge for the Sustainability, highlights the importance of leading strategic audiences from different sectors. “We reinforce Atvos’ commitment to disseminating the production model and sustainable consumption, in addition to strengthening agribusiness as fundamental in building a new economy, greener, more decent and inclusive”.
Ensuring food security in Brazil and worldwide is among the challenges of the Agro Sustainable Working Group, which brings together more than 50 organizations in the sector. The activities are aligned with two of the goals set by the UN to be achieved by 2030, the so-called Sustainable Development Goals. Said goals are: ‘Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture’ and ‘Responsible Consumption and Production’.
Since 2016, Atvos is part of the Global Compact Network Brazil, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. More than 9,500 companies from 160 countries are mobilized to align their operations and strategies to principles based on human rights, work, environment, and anti-corruption.
