Atvos certifies five units in the Renovabio Program
DATE: 02/19/2020
Atvos obtained its first five certifications in the Renovabio program, for the Conquista do Pontal Unit, in São Paulo, Rio Claro unit, in Goiás, and Santa Luzia and Eldorado units, both in Mato Grosso do Sul. The audits considered almost 100% of the sugarcane produced by these units and, in exchange, Atvos has the potential to issue approximately 1.3 million CBIOs (decarbonization credits) per harvest.
“Atvos’ management of greenhouse gas emissions since 2012 has enabled us to achieve high eligibility in the certification process for ethanol produced at the units,” explains Amaury Pekelman, responsible for institutional relations and sustainability at Atvos.
The number of CBIOs that can be commercialzed by the four units already certified by Atvos represents approximately 30% of the total available at RenovaBio. Five other Atvos agro-industrial units are in the certification process, with the public consultation stage of notes concluded and awaiting validation by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).
By producing ethanol and energy from sugarcane biomass, Atvos contributes to the global climate agenda, as the use of its products to replace fossil fuels prevents greenhouse gas emissions. In the last harvest of 2018/19, the emissions avoided by the four certified units totaled the equivalent of 2.9 million tons of CO2. All Business units together avoided the emission of 5.5 million tons of CO2.
