The Tribute to the Future is a fundraising campaign by the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation (FNO) that, for 20 years, has contributed to providing access to quality education for teenagers in rural areas. But the longevity and success of this initiative are only possible thanks to the joint efforts of various agents, united by the same purpose: education.

Event in the Lower South of Bahia marked the beginning of the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation’s campaign, which for two decades has helped transform the reality of teenagers in the region through education.

With the theme “Tribute to the Future: A Journey for All of Us,” this year’s campaign reinforces the importance of everyone connected and committed to this cause. The official launch took place last Wednesday morning (25) in the Lower South of Bahia, the heart of the initiative, at one of the three schools where the funds raised go, the Rural Family House of Presidente Tancredo Neves (CFR-PTN).

Moderated by Adelcio Souza, responsible for the FNO Partnerships area and campaign coordinator, the event brought together about 120 people, both in person and remotely. Educators and students from the Family Houses, FNO members, Novonor Group members, representatives of the Municipal Councils for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA), and other key figures for the success of the Tribute to the Future had the opportunity to share their journeys and experiences, highlighting the importance of each role in this collective journey.

“The joint efforts of this wide network of partners is the great strength of the campaign. We are talking about participatory governance, where everyone does their part to provide transformative education to young people in the Lower South. Keeping such a solid campaign since 2004 is undoubtedly a source of great pride for all of us,” highlighted Fabio Wanderley, FNO Superintendent, in his speech at the event.

Laís Campos, responsible for the Marketing and Corporate Communication area at Braskem in Bahia and a long-time supporter of the cause, had the opportunity to personally visit the institution to which she donates. “I could see in practice the impact that the donations from each member of the Novonor Group can make. It is impressive to observe the structure of the Family House, but above all, the empowerment of these young people through education, reflected in their eyes and attitudes,” she said.

    Celebration of Educational Potential

The photo exhibition “A Journey for All of Us” brought a visual narrative of the journeys and dreams of the students from the Family Houses.

The event highlighted the various journeys of the Tribute to the Future, whose resource mobilization ensures the work of the Family Houses in the Lower South of Bahia, located in the cities of Presidente Tancredo Neves, Igrapiúna, and Nilo Peçanha. These schools are FNO partners in the implementation of the PDCIS, a program composed of a series of proven socio-environmental solutions that strengthen family farming in harmony with the environment. Coordinated by FNO since 2003, the PDCIS seeks to boost economic development, prevent rural exodus, and promote entrepreneurship and social inclusion.

“The young people served experience a true journey of transformation, marked by education, income improvement, and above all, emancipation,” said Cristiane Nascimento, FNO’s Sustainability and Partnerships Manager, during a moment shared with Ivoneide de Jesus, a second-year student at CFR-PTN. “The Family Houses have played a crucial role in the formation of young protagonists. I consider myself one of them because I have heard from someone who was influenced by something I said, did, or the way I act in my community,” reported the teenager, moving everyone present and ending the online broadcast.

Right after the event, the in-person participants were surprised by the photo exhibition

The philharmonic of children and teenagers from AMBACOV, also supported by Tribute to the Future funds.

“A Journey for All of Us,” a visual narrative that portrays the lives impacted by the Tribute to the Future. Through the images taken by photographer Paulo Muniz, the dreams and achievements that contextualized education provides to the young students of the Family Houses, as well as their educators and families, are revealed.

The introduction of the exhibition featured a performance by the philharmonic of children and teenagers from ABAMCOV, an association of residents of the Colina Verde neighborhood in Presidente Tancredo Neves. This project is one of many supported by the CMDCA of PTN, using funds raised by the Tribute to the Future campaign.
