BIM in construction is the topic of a webinar at the OEC

Last April 27th the Engineering Systems Knowledge Community got together to watch the webinar “BIM in construction: requirements and solutions”, given by Engineer José Carlos Lino, Portuguese who is a global reference in the subject.

Lino is a Civil Engineer from the University of Porto and a BIM researcher at the University of Minho in the area of BIM Implementation, Standardization and Teaching. He is currently Academic and Pedagogical Director of the International Master BIM Manager (buildings and infrastructures) at NossoBIM and Coordinator and Professor in several other post-graduation courses in Brazil and Europe. He has vast international experience in developing projects using the BIM concept in Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Brazil, and is a founding partner of Consultores BIM, a company based in São Paulo, which operates in the area of buildings and infrastructure. In recent years, Lino has had the opportunity to participate in some of the world’s largest projects in some of these areas, supporting clients and builders in project management, team and model coordination, and site preparation, with problem identification and respective proposal of alternatives.

The class covered the new trends in the construction industry, going through the automation of engineering, its challenges and solutions. Lino presented practical examples of situations experienced in projects managed by his consulting firm around the world, exemplifying in rich detail the benefits that modeling can bring to avoid redundancies and overlaps in engineering projects.

BIM – BIM has definitely arrived in the preparation of major construction sites worldwide. Customers and companies involved in construction have realized the potential for risk management and resource optimization by anticipating their manufacturing and assembly processes through a true digital twin. This need gains even more relevance in the case of buildings with a high degree of complexity, highly demanding in the integration of the various civil and electromechanical specialties, such as hospitals, laboratories, teaching buildings, data centers, or factories for the technological components industries.
