On May 21st, OEC started the construction work on the Campo Grande Road Link, a district in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The company will be responsible for the project, which includes works between Caroba Road and Posse Road through the construction of a tunnel under the Luiz Bom rocky massif, as well as the geometric adjustment of surrounding streets and the construction of an underpass at the intersection of Monteiro Road and Cesário de Melo Avenue.

The project also includes the implementation and adjustment of roads, including the construction and redevelopment of a cycle path along the entire stretch, new roads with rigid and flexible pavement, a new public lighting network, and new vertical and horizontal signage devices.

The first intervention for the start of construction work on the Campo Grande Mergulhão, considered to be the largest neighborhood in Brazil with more than 330,000 inhabitants, was the partial closure of the Estrada do Monteiro. The new tunnel will be 420 meters long, 13 meters wide, with two lanes (one in each direction of the road). There will be 10,000 square meters of containment, contained by more than 200 tie rod units. The project is expected to generate around 1,200 direct and indirect jobs.

To draw the population’s attention and inform about the new routine in the coming months, the construction team distributed popsicles to drivers and pedestrians passing by the site, as well as pamphlets explaining the interventions. A sign displaying the benefits of the project and apologizing for any inconvenience was also used in the campaign.
