The naval, industrial and logistic complex ENSEADA obtained today (07/07) the permanent license to operate as a port to ship iron ore, expanding business beyond the naval and industrial sectors. The act took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Infrastructure, in Brasília, with the participation of the Minister of Infrastructure Tarcísio de Freitas, the Minister of Citizenship, João Roma, the CEO of the National Agency of Waterway Transport (ANTAQ) Eduardo Nery, ENSEADA’s CEO, Maurício Almeida, among other authorities.

The document issued by ANTAQ is valid for 25 years and establishes that ENSEADA shall store and handle bulk minerals (iron ore), general cargo and large-scale equipment, such as wind towers and blades, in addition to expanding the area of the port terminal to 740,000 square meters, making ENSEADA one of the largest ports in operation in the Northeast of Brazil.

Operational efficiency – Located in Maragojipe, in Recôncavo Baiano, the Enseada Private Use Terminal (TUP ENSEADA) has sheltered waters, deep draft, and a privileged location, which guarantees superior safety and efficiency in cargo movement.

TUP ENSEADA started its operations in 2020 and in less than a year it has already stored and moved 308,000 tons of ore from mines in Bahia. “There were seven shipments of 44,000 tons each carried out with full success by our team, which already places us as the largest ore port in operation in Bahia”, reveals Mário Moura.

Business expansion – In the last few years, ENSEADA has undergone a strategic repositioning, expanding its activities beyond its naval and industrial vocation. Today the Bahia-based company offers integrated engineering solutions for marine and offshore projects, industrial and logistics-port.

For Maurício Almeida, president of ENSEADA, the company maintains its vocation of offshore and industrial projects, but now also starts to operate in the port segment, becoming a relevant player in the sector. The license marks the conclusion of a long process of nearly three years of work focused on diversifying ENSEADA’s business, beyond the shipbuilding and offshore sectors.

“We have repositioned the company and in the midst of a serious pandemic we were back to hiring and generating income. Today, we offer our facilities to the national industry, in a convergent and competitive industrial agenda that will result in value creation for our company and customers. In addition, it will implement a new export route for Bahia’s commodities generating development and opportunities for Recôncavo region. All of that with legal security, solid governance, and a strong sustainability policy that differentiate us”, summarizes Almeida.
