Startups introduce solutions for socio-environmental impact to investors
DATE: 10/10/2019
Last Thursday (October 3), the 22 companies fostered by Braskem Labs Scale and Ignition programs had an opportunity to introduce their social and environmental impact solutions to investors and potential clients at the event that marked the end of the cycle of mentoring and workshops promoted by Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in the Americas and world leader in biopolymer production. In addition to the presentations to the evaluation board, consisting of Braskem executives, the participants were also able to learn more about the initiatives of the other startups in their demonstration stands.
At the event closing, Marina Rossi, manager of Sustainable Development at Braskem, highlighted the importance of corporate agendas being attentive to the impacts caused by human action on the planet: “Braskem Labs platform has already accelerated more than 70 companies with social and environmental impact in the last five years. Until last year, 40% of all the participating startups had already received investments after the participation and 94% of them continue in the market”, he said.
At the time, Fernando Musa, president of Braskem, highlighted the relevance of the acceleration programs: “Braskem Labs is a platform that brings us great pride. From this platform we can encourage innovation and sustainability in the entrepreneurial ecosystem by creating a channel focused on sustainable development, which allows solutions, such as those presented here, to materialize and contribute to improving people’s lives,” he said.
With the support of Quintessa, partner of the project, 12 initiatives were selected to participate in Braskem Labs Scale, which prioritizes solutions already validated and available in the market, and 10 were part of Braskem Labs Ignition, which aims to accelerate initiatives in the validation phase. Between June and September, the entrepreneurs went through an extensive training agenda focused on the challenges of business growth, such as sales, team, leadership, attracting investments, business validation, understanding the customer profile and market tests, among others.
