Thanks to the efforts of a committed team, composed of more than six thousand members, the conclusion of five stations of  the Panama’s MetroLine 2 was anticipated. The inauguration event, held on January 17, was attended by President Juan Carlos Varela, authorities of the Panamanian government, Members of Odebrecht Engineering & Construction (OEC) and FCC, media and a large number of participants of World Youth Day (WYD), which takes place between January 22 and 27 in Panama City.

The anticipated conclusion will allow the partial operation of Line 2 of the Metro during the religious event in the Panamanian capital. “Achieving this early conclusion was a challenge, which required long working hours and fronts operating 24 hours a day. I am proud to see that all this sacrifice has paid off and that the project will benefit thousands of people during WYD. All that thanks to the efforts of the more than six thousand members of the Line 2 Consortium and their families’ understanding”, said Sergio Bezerra, Contract manager.

The event started at the Corredor Sur Station with the blessing of Monsignor José Domingo Ulloa, followed by the words of Minister Roberto Roy, and then those present were able to enjoy folklore presentations. From there, the official tour started on two trains to San Miguelito Station, where President Varela gave a press conference.

The Panama Metro Line 2 trains have the capacity to carry up to 16 thousand users per hour, in each direction. When fully operational, the new line will benefit more than 98 communities and 48 educational centers located throughout its 21 kilometers.
