OR completes construction of Royal Palm Hall Convention Center
DATE: 02/15/2018
On February 6, OR delivered the Royal Palm Hall Convention Center. Located in Campinas, São Paulo, the project has 44,000 square meters of built-up area and 51 event rooms.
The highlight is the Monumental Room, which is the country’s largest ballroom for events: with 4,500 square meters, it can accommodate 5,000 people in the auditorium, 3,500 people for lunch and dinner or 9,000 people for concerts. The room also can be divided into seven modules using movable partitions. Another innovation unprecedented in Brazil is the use of double partitions for soundproofing.
The Convention Center structure was built using precast concrete and a 1,200-ton roof supported by a steel structure. “The construction methodology took into account reducing impacts on local traffic and the environment and optimizing the use of labor. To achieve this, certain measures were adopted, such as the use of honeycomb slabs and prefabricated systems, which were delivered to the construction site ready for use,” explained Bruno Scacchetti, president and chief executive officer of OR.
The Royal Palm group now will take over the works for completing the Convention center, which basically consists of installing carpets, vinyl coverings, woodwork and all the amenities for events.
Work opportunities
The Convention Center alone will create 350 of the 1,450 jobs needed once the entire complex is fully operational. Today, the Royal Palm Plaza, Royal Palm Tower and Hotel Anhanguera – the three projects already operational on the site – employ a combined total of 1,100 professionals.
