OEC Projects in Brazil and Panama Receive Global Award
DATE: 10/29/2024
The South Gas Terminal (TGS), in Babitonga Bay, Santa Catarina, and the branch of Line 2 of the Panama City Metro, both projects executed by the Brazilian construction company OEC – Odebrecht Engineering and Construction, were nominated to receive the merit award of the Global Best Projects, an award promoted by the American specialized magazine ENR (Engineering News-Record), one of the most prestigious in the world in its segment.
This is the 12th edition in which OEC is recognized by what is considered the greatest distinction in world engineering. The company is the only Brazilian present on this year’s list of awardees. The award ceremony will take place on December 19, in an online format, and will be broadcast from the United States.
The judges convened by ENR magazine, specialists from corporations such as KPMG, Jacobs, Columbia University, United Engineering Foundation, among others, analyzed the safety performance, innovations, and teamwork of 120 projects, the highest number of entries the magazine has ever received. Of these, 35 projects located in 19 countries were selected as the most notable.
For Marco Aurélio Barros, Contract Director of Tenenge, an OEC company responsible for the construction of TGS, this recognition is important because it highlights the completion of a challenging project that will bring many benefits to our client and the population of the southern region of the country, increasing the installed capacity of energy generation with LNG, which will arrive and be transported through TGS. “Our team demonstrated great competence in completing this very complex project. A work executed on land and sea, involving various disciplines, and today it is in full activity meeting the operator’s needs. We are grateful for the opportunity to work on this asset and to ENR magazine for this recognition,” he says.
For Ricardo Vieira, Superintendent Director for Latin America at OEC, the quality of the works executed in Panama has always been under the watchful eye of ENR judges. “Our performance in Panama has always earned us great recognition from this global award. After winning the Global Best Projects with the Tocumen Airport, Cinta Costera, Curundu, Panama Bay Sanitation projects, with Line 2 of the Metro itself, in addition to the main award with the Colón Reurbanization project, we now receive with great joy this recognition for the work on the Line 2 branch. Indeed, these are works of great relevance to Panamanian society, of which we are very proud to have contributed,” he concludes.
